2015 HOKC Mystery Shawl
Introducing the 2015 Mystery Shawl Pattern designed by Sharon Mooney, available for free through Hands On Knitting Center until all clues have been released. This exciting shawl project combines mystery and creativity, making it a perfect choice for knitters of all skill levels looking to expand their knitting repertoire.
Here's the knitting schedule for the Mystery Shawl: Clue 1 will be released on Saturday, June 6, followed by Clue 2 on June 13, Clue 3 on June 20, and finally Clue 4 on June 27. Be sure to mark your calendars so you don't miss out on any of the clues!
To create this beautiful shawl, you will need 400 yards of light worsted or DK weight yarn in both a solid color and a multi-colored option. The thoughtful choice of colors is essential, as this shawl is designed to showcase the striking contrast between the two yarns, allowing for a vibrant and eye-catching finished piece.
For an added touch of elegance, consider including 85 beads strategically placed at the bottom of the shawl. These beads, which should be pre-strung onto your solid yarn, will enhance the overall design. Be mindful that there are only 85 beads required, so it's an achievable task that adds a delightful sparkle to your project!
Throughout the mystery knitting adventure, you'll encounter some unique techniques that many knitters may not have experienced before. One technique, featuring the use of beads, is found at the bottom of the shawl, while another interesting technique awaits at the top. In between, you will enjoy some simple colorwork, intricate yet manageable stitch patterns, and above all, a lot of fun as you knit along!
This generous-sized shawl makes it the perfect accessory for any occasion, and with your choice of yarn colors, you can customize it to suit your personal style. For my own version, I used Cascade 220 Superwash Worsted in a light grey paired with Madeline Tosh's Tosh DK in vibrant turquoise and grey tones.
