As of September 3, 2014, we are excited to announce that this pattern has received a significant update! The written instructions have been enhanced for clarity, and we have included detailed information regarding gauge, materials, and more to ensure your knitting experience is smooth and enjoyable.
This straightforward mitten pattern is one that I have relied on for many years when friends and family request mittens, gloves, or fingerless mitts. It's designed to be simple and easy to follow, making it perfect for knitters of all skill levels!
Throughout its use, this pattern has proven to be extremely versatile. It can be used with US size 10 needles for felting, incorporated into a variety of vibrant colorwork designs, or simply crafted into plain, classic mittens. By opting for a larger needle size, such as going up one or two sizes, you can easily create a men's medium. For larger sizes, switch to size 6 needles to achieve a men's large or XL—all without needing to alter the core pattern!
The mitten's design features a fairly tight gauge, which I achieved using US size 3 needles. This deliberate choice ensures that the cold winds are kept at bay when wearing these mittens during the chilly Philadelphia winters. You’ll be toasty warm and stylish!
