Aberdeen

$6.50

Inspired by the haunting beauty and the ubiquitous thistles of Scotland, the Aberdeen mittens serve as the third stunning pattern in my 3 Little Mittens collection. These enchanting mittens feature intricate stranded colorwork and a delicate wee picot hem, creating a stylish accessory that’s both functional and visually appealing. Each mitten is meticulously worked in the round, beginning with a provisionally cast-on picot hem that adds an elegant touch. The unique thumb construction is a delightful combination of a welt and a flap, ensuring a lovely fit for every hand.

When you knit the Aberdeen mittens, you'll achieve a gauge of 34 stitches and 39 rows per 4" (10 cm) in stockinette stitch, allowing you to create perfectly fitting mittens every time.

  • If you choose to make the mittens in two colors, you will need 1 skein (246 yd / 225 m per 50 g) of each color: main color (MC) and contrasting color (CC).

  • For those opting to craft the mittens in the original 9-colorway, gather the following yarns: 1 skein (246 yd / 225 m per 50 g) of Sunday Knits Nirvana in charcoal for the main color (MC), and Eden in sage for the contrasting color (CC); plus, 1 mini skein (99 yd / 90 m per 20 g) each of Eden in grape, lagoon, pickle, and curry; Nirvana in ocean; Angelic in nut; and Brigadoon in blackish.

The Aberdeen mittens not only showcase a rich blend of colors but also celebrate the spirit of Scottish landscapes. Whether you are gifting them or keeping them for yourself, they make a perfect addition to any winter wardrobe. Get started on your knitting adventure today and enjoy the artistic process of creating these beautiful mittens!
