Thank you for participating in the fifth year of the Summer of Sea Creatures initiative!
This pattern is likely the most challenging of the Summer of Sea Creatures due to its intricate construction technique. The head is knitted in two separate parts and then carefully sewn together, followed by the body, which also consists of two parts that need to be joined. A flat base is added to the bottom, and finally, the wings are sewn on to complete the penguin. Although the seaming process can be tedious, the final result makes the effort truly worthwhile. You will need to be comfortable knitting in the round using double-pointed needles, as well as performing increases and decreases to achieve the desired shape and detail in your knitted project. For this project, prepare to use one complete ball of black yarn, along with less than half a ball of white yarn. This pattern not only serves as a wonderful project for skilled knitters but also as a meaningful way to spread awareness about the plight of the African penguin and other endangered species. Join us in this creative endeavor and make a difference, one stitch at a time!
