Aix

Aix-en-Provence is a charming city located in the stunning south of France, renowned for its rich history and vibrant culture. Among its many artistic attractions is the Vasarely Foundation, dedicated to the Hungarian-French artist Victor Vasarely, a pivotal figure in the development of Op Art. A few summers ago, I had the incredible opportunity to admire his breathtaking work there, leaving me with cherished memories of Aix-en-Provence that will last a lifetime.

Introducing the Aix Cowl, a beautifully crafted accessory designed for the intermediate knitter. This cowl is created using the engaging double knitting technique, which results in a warm and reversible piece. The pattern is thoughtfully charted to guide you through each step of the process. While a brief introduction to double knitting is included, if you’re new to this technique, I highly recommend watching a few tutorials online to enhance your understanding and skill set. Additionally, this versatile pattern can also be adapted to make a stunning double-knitted scarf, offering even more options for your knitting projects!

Difficulty Level: Intermediate (involves double knitting and working from charts)

Yarn Requirements: You will need 2 contrasting colors of fingering sock yarn, with approximately 260 meters (284 yards) of each color. For this sample, I used Lana Grossa Meilenweit Special in a rich dark blue paired with Regia Color 4-ply in a softer light blue, both of which are available in 50g skeins with a yardage of 210 meters (230 yards) per skein.

Embrace the challenge of double knitting and create your own Aix Cowl, perfect for adding a touch of artistic flair to your winter wardrobe. With the right yarn and a bit of practice, you’ll be crafting stunning knitwear that not only highlights your skills but celebrates the beauty and inspiration of places like Aix-en-Provence!
