Alma Lou
Introducing a delightful shawlette pattern, lovingly crafted for my mother, Alma—a wonderful gift for her birthday. We affectionately call her Alma Lou, a name that adds a touch of warmth, as her middle name is the charming Lucretia. When designing this shawlette, I aimed for something that exudes simplicity while incorporating just the right amount of frou-frou. Incorporating eyelets into the design seemed to be the perfect choice, creating an elegant flair that pairs wonderfully with a rustic garter stitch background. This pattern strikes the ideal balance, offering enough engaging techniques to keep you motivated throughout your knitting journey.
Gauge: Achieve a gauge of 24 stitches per 4 inches (10 cm), although it’s important to note that achieving an exact gauge is not crucial for this project.
Needles: You will need a US size 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle, preferably 24 inches or longer for comfortable knitting. Yarn: This shawlette requires approximately 350 yards of light-fingering or fingering-weight yarn. I’ve showcased samples in Blue Moon Fiber Arts Yaksi Fingering, True Blood Red, and Black Trillium Merilon in the stunning Coraline shade for your inspiration.
Finished Measurements: The final product measures 54 inches wide and 16 inches deep at the center. The shawl featured in the photo was blocked fairly vigorously to emphasize its beautiful openwork design.
