Alpaca My Mittens
These beautifully crafted alpaca mittens showcase charming alpacas against an array of Fair Isle bands, featuring varying widths that add stunning visual intrigue. Designed specifically for a dear friend who raises alpacas, the sample pair was meticulously knit using handspun yarn sourced directly from her herd of adorable alpacas. To accommodate different preferences, we offer two sizes: for smaller mittens, consider using smaller needles and/or a finer weight yarn; for larger mittens, opt for heavier weight yarn and/or larger needles to achieve the perfect fit. For those looking for a convenient alternative, we recommend using a soft alpaca/wool blend for commercial yarn. MATERIALS: Sport weight yarn in 3 contrasting colors
Shown above in size M featuring 2-ply handspun alpaca blend yarns:
- MC: 80% grey alpaca/20% blue Shetland wool (75 yds/26g used)
- CC1: 66% brown alpaca/24% Shetland wool/10% chocolate Settlers Grove Angora (56 yds/16g used)
- CC2: black alpaca (approx. 91 yds/48g used)
To knit these exquisite mittens, you will need U.S. size 2.5 (3 mm) needles or a size necessary to achieve the correct gauge. Additional supplies include stitch markers, smooth cotton waste yarn cut to 12“/30 cm lengths, a tapestry needle, and optionally, a magnetic board to help keep your place while working.
