ABOUT THE PATTERN

The Amaranth Scarf is a beautifully designed accessory that alternates between elegant Lace and cozy Welt Sections, making it both visually striking and a practical knit. This clever design choice not only helps to avoid curling but also ensures that Amaranth is a quick and enjoyable project for knitters of all skill levels. With both charted and written instructions provided, you can easily follow along, whether you are a seasoned pro or a beginner. The name "Amaranth" is inspired by the delicate lace panels that resemble the blooms of the amaranth plant. This ancient super-grain is not just revered for its beauty, but also for its rich nutritional profile. Amaranth is packed with fiber, protein, and antioxidants, thriving in a variety of climates, which makes it a valuable food crop across the globe. In fact, it has been highlighted as one of the “Future 50 Foods: For Healthier People and a Healthier Planet,” emphasizing its importance in sustainable eating.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

This scarf is designed in one versatile size, measuring approximately 77” [195.5 cm] long by 9” [23 cm] wide, with the added bonus of easily adjustable length to suit your preferences.

MATERIALS

Yarn: You will need 500 yards [460 m] of sport weight yarn to create this stunning piece. For the sample scarf, we used Malabrigo Arroyo in the vibrant color 093 Fucsia, which required around 150 g or 500 yards of yarn.

Needles: A pair of size US 5 [3.75 mm] needles is recommended, or you can choose the size needed to achieve the perfect gauge for your project.

Other notions: Don't forget to gather essential tools such as a stitch marker and a tapestry needle for seamless finishing touches.

GAUGE

To ensure the best results, aim for 22 stitches and 20 rows = 4" [10 cm] in the Lace Section after blocking, and 22 stitches and 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] in the Welt Section after blocking. Achieving gauge is essential for a well-fitting, beautifully draped scarf.

With this pattern, you’ll not only create a stunning accessory but also enjoy the satisfaction of using an ancient method to craft something modern and stylish. Happy knitting!
