Amaru Shawl

$9.59

The Amaru Shawl pattern is inspired by my deep passion for the rich history and intricate cosmogony of South American native cultures, particularly those of the Inca civilization. Originating from my time living in Cusco, Peru, many years ago, I discovered that the spiritual universe of the Incas is beautifully structured into three distinct levels:

  1. The upper world: Hanan Pacha
  2. The underworld: Kay Pacha
  3. The world below: Ukhu Pacha, or the world of the dead, symbolized by the sacred snake known as Amaru in Quechua. This level represents infinity and the cyclic nature of existence.

Each of these levels is represented by sacred animals and deeply influences the daily life, religious practices, and architectural marvels of this vibrant culture. As I walked through the historic streets of Cusco, I was captivated by the remarkable stone buildings, crafted from large stones that fit together with astonishing precision. The stone floors resonate with the echoes of time, emphasizing the enduring legacy of the Incan civilization.

The Amaru Shawl captures the essence of this fascinating culture and its spiritual beliefs. The design is not only visually striking but also serves as a tribute to the harmony between humanity and the natural world. You can wear this shawl as a reminder of the stories that these ancient stones have witnessed over the ages.

Denim blue, earthy browns, and vibrant greens form the palette of this stunning shawl, allowing you to embody the spirit of the Andes in your knitting. Whether you are a seasoned knitter or a beginner, this pattern is crafted to be both engaging and rewarding. Explore this knitting pattern that transcends mere aesthetics—it’s a connection to a historical legacy that remains alive in the fabric of our everyday lives.
