Arsenic and Old Lace
Yarn Warning: I am amending the pattern to specify that you will need approximately 250 yards of the lighter color yarn. During the KAL, several participants experienced a shortage, and I want to ensure that no one faces the moment of panic with just two rows left to complete. This extra yardage will help you finish your project confidently.
Errata: For XXL ONLY (no buttonhole version), please note that Row 4 should be amended to: K6, (kf&b, K4)x8, Kf&b, then knit to the end of the row. This correction is important to follow for accurate results in your knitting project.
Join us for a delightful Mystery Shawl/Capelet KAL starting on August 3rd in the Criminal Knits group. This pattern features fitted shoulders and a beautifully intricate lace border crafted using traditional Japanese knitting techniques, perfect for adding elegance to your wardrobe.
For this project, you will need approximately 350 - 450 yards of a dark tonal or solid color in worsted weight yarn for the main body, as well as an additional 250+ yards of a much lighter solid yarn for details and the edge. The pattern provides more precise yardage recommendations based on the size you are making, ensuring you have all the information you need to succeed.
Additionally, make sure you have the following materials ready: stitch markers (please avoid using stitch rings), up to 4 buttons if you decide to incorporate them into your design, and a set of circular needles in size 9 and 10. The size 10 needles can be 24 inches long, while the size 9 needles should be 40 inches or longer to accommodate your project properly.
This pattern is primarily written, but be advised that the lace edge is also charted for those who prefer to follow visual patterns. Whether you're a beginner looking for a new challenge or an experienced knitter wanting to refine your skills, this KAL is a wonderful opportunity to learn and create a stunning piece!
