Askoo Socks
When he was a little boy, my older son affectionately dubbed snowmobiles as “Askoo,” a term that has stuck with us over the years. This cozy and functional knitting pattern was lovingly crafted for him just before embarking on an adventure to Northern Canada. The design features a dense yet squishy fabric, specifically engineered to withstand the harshest sub-Arctic winds while riding on a snow machine, or simply lounging by the fire on a chilly evening.
Finished Size: The finished product boasts a snug 9” circumference, which comfortably stretches to approximately 10.5” to accommodate various head sizes.
Yarn Details: To create this warm accessory, you'll need Lorna’s Laces Cloudgate, a luxurious blend consisting of 90% Superwash Merino and 10% Nylon. Each skein offers 120 yards (100g). For optimal results, you will need 2 skeins; however, the total amount of yarn required may vary based on your specific foot size. As a reference, men's size 13 feet typically require about 200 yards of yarn, while women's size 10 can be completed with around 160 yards.
Needle Information: For this project, a set of 5 double-pointed needles or two circular needles in size 8 US is recommended. Feel free to adjust the needle size as necessary to achieve the required gauge for your project.
Gauge Specifications: The gauge is 4 stitches per inch in stockinette, knit in the round [unstretched]. Ensuring you meet this gauge is important for achieving the desired fit and warmth in your finished piece.
