Baby Tux Illusion Blanket

$6.93

In 1996, Tux, the beloved Linux mascot, was created by artist Larry Ewing. Building on this adorable character, Nicolas Rougier designed Baby Tux in 2003. Fast forward to 2011, and we proudly introduced Illusion Baby Tux, a unique creation inspired by Rougier’s original drawings, perfect for knitting enthusiasts looking for a delightful project.

Baby Tux is not just any blanket; it’s an illusion piece that is best viewed from an angle, making it an ideal design choice for a cozy baby blanket. Once completed, the blanket measures approximately 81 cm x 104 cm (32” x 44”) when knitted using DK yarn. However, you're free to experiment with any yarn type, keeping in mind that this choice may alter the final size of your blanket. The sample blanket featured in the photos was knitted using Stylecraft Special DK yarn in vibrant Royal blue and crisp White (requiring 2 balls of each color).

Illusion knitting, sometimes referred to as shadow knitting, is a charming technique that is incredibly easy to master. The process is straightforward: simply knit two rows with one yarn followed by two rows in the contrasting yarn, much like creating traditional stripes. This technique allows for fascinating results that will captivate everyone who sees your work.

When viewed head-on, the knitting appears to showcase stripes; however, when observed from an angle, the enchanting image of Baby Tux comes to life. This playful interaction between perspective and design makes this project not only fun to knit but also a delightful conversation starter.

The pattern includes several versions of the chart to cater to all knitters, including a user-friendly format optimized for phones and tablets, ensuring that you can knit on-the-go. Get ready to embark on this magical knitting journey and create your very own Illusion Baby Tux blanket that is sure to become a cherished keepsake!
