Baltic hat and bag
Discover the charm of Estonian knitting techniques with our beautifully crafted hat and matching small swatch bag. This delightful knitting pattern incorporates intricate Estonian methods, including the vikkel braid, a nupp, a three-color twist, and the Kihnu Troi cast-on. Each of these unique techniques is illustrated with easy-to-follow diagrams in our pattern, ensuring a seamless knitting experience. For additional inspiration, the pattern also features stranded designs adapted from the acclaimed book, Latvian Dreams by Joyce Williams et al.
Choose from a vibrant palette of three to four colors—or even more—to customize your knitting project. The hat design requires approximately 100 g of your main color, along with less than 50 g of the other colors, making it a fun way to use up yarn scraps. Similarly, the small swatch bag needs less than 50 g each of two or three colors, perfect for creating a coordinated set.
This versatile hat comes with two options for the top: a rounded design or a stylish pointy top that can be adorned with a lovely tassel. You also have the choice to line the bottom of the hat for extra warmth or to leave it unlined for a trendy rolled look. All patterns are conveniently charted for your ease, making it accessible for knitters of all skill levels.
For sizing, I have based the adjustments on a cast-on of 112 stitches, resulting in a hat that measures about 21 inches in circumference. If you prefer a smaller or larger fit, you can easily achieve this by adjusting your gauge or stitch count accordingly, ensuring a comfortable fit for everyone.
