IN TESTING PHASE

This crochet provisional cast-on pattern was initially designed to teach my group the technique, but it evolved into a uniquely functional and attractive dishcloth. Not only does it serve as a wonderful kitchen accessory, but you can also adapt it to create an afghan square by adjusting the end row counts to fit your desired size. However, please note that while this method should work for most, I cannot guarantee perfect results for every user's project.

The recommended cast-on is 45 stitches, which offers a versatile starting point. However, feel free to modify this number to achieve your own design—just remember to adjust the edge stitch counts accordingly for a balanced finish.

At the end of the pattern, you’ll find an extensive, photo-intensive TUTORIAL for PROVISIONAL CROCHET CAST-ON that will guide you through each step of the process. This visual aid will enhance your understanding and make the technique more approachable for beginners.

Please note that I do not define the basic stitches in detail, so some knitting experience is recommended. Here are the essential stitches you'll need to know:

  • k, p
  • ssk - Slip one stitch knitwise, slip another stitch knitwise, return both to the left needle, and knit them together through their back legs.
  • k2tog - Knit two together for a decrease.
  • yo - Yarn over, a technique to create an eyelet.
  • k1b - Knit one in the back leg of the stitch for added texture.
  • sl1, k2tog, psso - Slip one stitch knitwise, knit the next two stitches together, then pass the slipped stitch over the two that were knit together for a lovely decrease.
  • sl2, k1, p2sso - Slip two stitches knitwise, knit one, and then pass the two slipped stitches over the knitted stitch.
