Belle of the Ball
This stunning design earned me a coveted spot in the Top Ten Finals of the Vogue Knitting Live 2018 San Francisco Magic Mohair Design Contest, held in celebration of the enchanting book, “Faerie Knitting” by Alice Hoffman and Lisa Hoffman. I am thrilled to announce that it was showcased alongside nine other remarkable designs during the Final Judging event! It was an incredible experience, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome!
This exquisite cape is primarily worked flat, starting from the bottom up, and features a unique rolled edge hem that adds a touch of elegance. The shaping begins after completing the second ‘garland’ section, continuing seamlessly into the shoulder area and around the neckline. A beautiful lateral braid near the top offsets the shaping, enhancing its visual appeal. Once the braid row is finished, the construction shifts to working in the round, allowing the cape to be easily slipped over your head for effortless wear.
To finish the garment, a delicate picot bind off is utilized, giving the cape a polished and graceful look. For styling, a charming ribbon bow is stitched on, serving as an elegant accent; however, you can easily swap it out with any decorative clasp of your choice to personalize your creation.
