While exploring the breathtaking wilderness of Alaska, I learned that you're never far from a bear—be it black, brown, polar, or otherwise. Sadly, on my singular trip to this beautiful state, the only bear I encountered was a stuffed grizzly in the hotel lobby. This stunning shawl was created as a tribute to the bears I yearned to see, as well as the berries they delight in during the lush summer months. The intricate border design symbolizes their powerful claws reaching toward the juicy berries adorning the shawl's body. Meanwhile, the center spine increases form a whimsical, random leaf-like pattern that brings the beauty of nature to life.

The wingspan of the shawl varies by size: 40 inches for Size S and an impressive 52 inches for Size L. The sample displayed is crafted in Size L, showcasing its generous dimensions and elegance.

To achieve the perfect gauge, aim for 12 "berries" and 11 rows of "berries" over a 4-inch swatch. If you're looking for options, a fingering weight yarn will also work beautifully for this shawl, giving you flexibility in your yarn choices.

This pattern was originally published in the Arctic Lace Yarn Club, and it embodies the spirit of adventure and the beauty of nature that inspires knitters to create.
