PATTERN NOTES

The Bica socks are a delightful toe-up knitting project that features an innovative German short-row heel for a comfortable fit. This pattern is specifically designed for knitters using the magic loop method, but feel free to substitute with double-pointed needles (DPNs) if you prefer. The unique stitch pattern creates a stunning mock cable effect along the front of the socks, while the sole and back of the leg are elegantly worked in stockinette stitch. The best part? You can easily adjust the length of the leg to suit your personal style and preference.

YARN

For these exquisite Bica socks, you'll need approximately 300 - 400 yards (274 - 366 metres) of fingering weight yarn. The pattern is showcased using Retrosaria Mondim, a premium 100% wool yarn that boasts 421 yards (385 metres) per 100 grams. One ball of color #302 was used in the sample, but feel free to experiment with colors that match your unique taste!

NEEDLES

To complete your Bica socks, you will need a 32” (80cm) long circular needle in US size 1.5 (2.5mm). Alternatively, you can opt for a set of double-pointed needles (DPNs) in the same size. Remember to adjust your needle size as necessary to achieve the correct gauge for your project.

GAUGE

To ensure a perfect fit, aim for a gauge of 33 stitches and 44 rounds equaling 4”/10cm in stockinette stitch knitted in the round with US size 1.5 (2.5mm) needles.
