Now, you have incredible options for your favorite knitter's hat: choose between the cozy garter stitch or the smooth stockinette stitch. Whether you prefer the texture of garter or the classic look of stockinette, you can easily select the one that resonates with your knitting style, or why not knit both? Having a matching set allows you to switch things up depending on your mood and style for the day.
Skill Level: This delightful project is suitable for advanced beginners to intermediate knitters. It's a perfect way to advance your skills while creating warm and stylish accessories for yourself or loved ones.
Finished Dimensions: The beanie is designed with two sizes to accommodate a variety of head circumferences: the children's size fits head circumferences of 20 inches (50 cm) and the adult size fits 22 inches (55 cm). These versatile dimensions make it a fantastic gift option for both kids and adults alike!
Suggested Yarn: For this project, a fingering weight yarn is recommended, with a total of 2 oz (50 g) or approximately 250 yards (230 m) required for the adult size. You’ll need two colors – Color A and Color B. I used the lovely Jamieson & Smith 2-ply jumper weight Shetland wool, with one skein of each color, which adds a beautiful depth and warmth to your finished hat.
Needles: To knit the Big Time Garter hat, you’ll need size US 3 (3.25 mm) and size US 5 (3.75 mm) double pointed needles, or the size required to achieve the proper gauge.
Gauge: It's essential to obtain the correct gauge of 13 stitches and 15 rows per 2 inches in colorwork to ensure your hat fits perfectly. Follow these guidelines, and you'll have a beautifully crafted piece that not only showcases your knitting talent but also keeps you warm during the colder months.
