Bluebird Baby Blanket
This beautiful knitting pattern was originally designed as a cozy baby blanket for my granddaughter, Doris. Due to the overwhelming interest from fellow knitters, I decided to share it by creating a limited edition A2 signed print of the chart, followed by a downloadable PDF version. This intricate design is perfect for knitters looking to challenge themselves and create something truly special.
The design features a complex pattern that requires careful concentration and a certain level of knitting skill, as it involves carrying long floats across multiple stitches. To simplify the process, I created this pattern to be knitted in the round and steeked. This method ensures that you are always working with the front of the chart visible, allowing you to use the knit stitch consistently for the colorwork sections.
While I initially knitted this stunning baby blanket pattern using 4ply yarn with 3.5mm needles, you can easily adapt the project to use any yarn weight. However, for optimal results, I recommend choosing a wooly yarn, especially since the pattern involves steeking. Wool tends to hold its shape well and can withstand the cutting process of steeking.
It’s important to note that gauge is not critical for this pattern since the sizing is not a major concern. Nevertheless, ensuring that the ribbed and stockinette stitch sections sit flat against each other is essential for a polished finish. Therefore, it’s advisable to match the gauge of the ribbing with that of the stockinette stitch. This thoughtful design will help you create a stunning piece that not only serves as a lovely keepsake but also showcases your knitting skills.
