Finished Circumference at Brim: The finished measurements of the hat are 15 (17¾, 22¾, 25½) inches / 38.5 (45, 58, 64) cm, making it suitable for a variety of head sizes. Note: The sample shown is in size S, designed to fit a 22 inch / 55 cm head.
Materials Needed: For this project, you will need approximately 200 (240, 300, 350) yards / 185 (220, 275, 320) meters of sport or light DK weight yarn. Our sample is knitted using the exquisite De Rerum Natura Ulysse (100% merino; 202 yds/185 m per 50 grams in the stunning Poivre et Sel colorway).
Needles & Tools: You will require a few essential knitting tools to complete your Bob Slouchy Hat:
- US 2½ / 3mm DPNs or a 16” / 40cm circular needle (or a different size to achieve the desired gauge).
- US 4 / 3.5mm DPNs or a 16” / 40cm circular needle (or a different size for the cable pattern).
- 1 stitch marker for tracking rounds.
- A cable needle or a DPN for creating the cable pattern.
- A darning needle for finishing touches.
Gauge (after blocking): To ensure a perfect fit, you should aim for a gauge of 28.5 stitches = 4 inches / 10 cm in 1x1 rib using the smaller needle. When working on the cable pattern (Chart A) with the larger needle, aim for 27 stitches and 34 rounds = 4 inches / 10 cm.
