Boston Top-Down Hooded Coat #B106

$9.95

When I first moved to New England, this top-down hooded coat would have been the ultimate survival gear for chilly weather. Not only does it feature a roomy hood that effectively blocks out harsh elements, but it also looks stylish when not in use, making it a versatile addition to any wardrobe.

This beautifully designed coat is crafted from the top down, starting at the back shoulders for seamless construction. The back portion is knitted to the armholes, then placed on hold while the fronts are carefully picked up from the back shoulders and worked to the armholes as well. Once the back and fronts are joined, the body is knitted all the way down to the bottom edge, ensuring a perfect fit.

The sleeves are then picked up from the armholes, allowing for a cozy fit as they are worked down to the cuffs. This pattern also incorporates short-row shaping to create beautifully contoured sleeve caps for added comfort and style. The hood, a standout feature of this coat, is picked up from the neck edge and worked to the top, again utilizing short-row shaping for a tailored look. To finish off the hood, the top is joined using either the Kitchener stitch or a 3-Needle Bind-Off for a clean, professional finish.

The edging around the hood and bottom of the coat is meticulously worked around the entire piece, creating a polished look. Due to the length of this edging, you will need to use 3 circular needles to accommodate the stitches, with a fourth needle serving as your working needle. This allows for a smooth knitting experience and an impressive finished product.

This gorgeous hooded coat was originally worked in Plymouth Yarns Galway Chunky, making it not only warm and practical but also a beautiful addition to your handmade collection. Perfect for anyone looking to combine style with functionality in their knitwear, this pattern is sure to be a favorite among both novice and experienced knitters alike.

Whether you're preparing for winter or simply looking for a cozy project, this top-down hooded coat knitting pattern is a must-try. Get ready to show off your knitting skills while staying warm and chic in this beautiful, functional design!
