Discover a charming knitting project that celebrates a small farm right in Rhinebeck! I had the pleasure of being introduced to Catskill Merinos by the knowledgeable Jill Draper, who truly understands her sheep. The moment I touched a skein of Dominique’s exquisite fiber, I was instantly captivated and knew I wanted this luxurious yarn wrapped around my neck. Dominique raises Saxon Merinos on her beautiful farm in Upstate New York, and the outcome is simply a stunning yarn that you'll love working with!

This yarn is incredibly soft and round, with just a hint of rustic charm. To allow the unique character of the yarn to shine through, I decided to implement strong lines in a simple ribbing pattern, which I paired with an alternating lace motif that enhances the proportions of the ribs. The cowl features ribbing for one-third of its length, transitioning into a lovely lace section for the remaining two-thirds. This design creates a delightful contrast in textures, offering versatility when worn either long or neatly wrapped around your neck.

This knitting project is not only quick but also exceptionally satisfying. It's easily adaptable for various lengths, widths, or even different weights of her yarn that you might fall in love with - the creative possibilities are endless! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced knitter, this pattern allows for personal touches to make it truly your own.

The sample project was made using Catskill Saxon Merino Yarn in Saxon Merino Worsted, a fiber that is perfect for knitters looking for quality and comfort. Below, you'll find a suggested substitute yarn that will help you create your own version of this beautiful cowl. Dive into this project and wrap yourself in the warmth and elegance of handcrafted merino wool!
