Bump Along
Discover the joy of knitting with the Bump Along Cowl, a delightful and easy pattern that showcases the beauty of mini skeins! This fabulous cowl is inspired by my self-striping design, Speed Bumps, and takes the concept further by utilizing an advent calendar to create stunning color transitions throughout the piece.
If you’re not a fan of mini skeins, no problem! The Bump Along Cowl can also be crafted using a single skein of yarn. A variegated or hand-dyed yarn will beautifully complement the unique pattern and texture, making this cowl a versatile addition to your collection. The design cleverly combines knit and purl stitches interspersed with stockinette rows, resulting in a captivating bumpy texture that adds visual interest and dimension.
For this project, you will need a total of 380 yards (347 meters) of fingering weight yarn, perfect for creating a lightweight but cozy winter accessory. To ensure you achieve the perfect fit, use US size 4 (3.5 mm) 16” circular needles (40 cm), which are ideal for knitting this circular cowl comfortably.
Don't forget the essential notions: a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and a stitch marker to keep track of your pattern rows. It's also crucial to pay attention to gauge; aim for 28 stitches x 40 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in 1x1 ribbing. If necessary, adjust your needle size to achieve the correct gauge to ensure a polished final product.
The finished Bump Along Cowl measures 21 inches in circumference and 12 inches in depth (53 cm circumference x 30.5 cm deep), making it a perfect fit for a variety of neck sizes. Whether you're a seasoned knitter or just starting out, this pattern offers a fun and satisfying project that will enhance your knitting skills. Enjoy crafting this stylish cowl and stay warm in a creative way!
