CacTickles

Since I visited Big Bend National Park, I have been captivated by how much the appearances of the cacti resemble delightful knitted textures. Up close, however, these natural wonders are not as huggable as they seem; they're quite spiny and sharp! That's why I’ve affectionately named these charming creations CacTickles! Unlike traditional cacti, which can be prickly, these knitted versions are tickly, making them perfect for knitters and lovers of whimsical decor.

This unique pattern features three striking succulents: the Rebutia, known for its vibrant colors; the Saguaro, a classic symbol of the American Southwest; and the Parodia, celebrated for its distinct appearance. Each CacTickles succulent measures between 7 to 14 cm tall, making them an adorable and compact addition to your home.

The CacTickles are crafted using Drops Merino yarn in three beautiful shades: (47) sage green, (18) apple green, and (31) forest green. I recommend using 2 mm (US 0, UK 14) double-pointed (sock) needles, which are thinner than typically recommended. This choice creates a denser fabric, preventing the filling from peeking through. For added comfort, I filled them with soft toy stuffing, ensuring they retain a plush touch.

The flowers adorning these succulents are meticulously knitted in miniature using lace gauge yarn on 1.25 mm needles, although you can opt for a heavier yarn on thicker needles if you desire larger blooms. The CacTickles are expertly knitted in the round, incorporating textured stitches that bring them to life.
