Calineczka
Calineczka is the charming Polish name for Thumbellina, and interestingly, the term 'Calineczka' derives from ‘cal’, a word meaning ‘inch’. This delightful detail sets the stage for an enchanting knitting project that you can undertake!
Level - This shawl pattern is ideally suited for knitters with a familiarity in lace knitting. While the shawl is not overly difficult to knit, it does feature some rows that may not be immediately intuitive, potentially presenting challenges for less experienced knitters. To successfully complete this pattern, you should be comfortable with techniques including RT (Right Twist), LT (Left Twist), k2tog (knit two together), ssk (slip slip knit), yo (yarn over), and understanding how the WS (wrong side) alternates between knit and purl stitches. Both charts and written instructions provide clarity throughout the process.
Sizing - One of the great features of this pattern is its adaptability. You have the flexibility to choose the size of your shawl by simply adding more repeats of the body section, allowing you to create a piece that perfectly suits your style and needs.
Yarn - For optimal results, we recommend using a lace to fingering weight yarn to achieve the best appearance for this shawl. The choice of yarn will greatly influence the shawl's final look, so select a fiber that enhances the delicate lace design. Additionally, ensure that you use the appropriate needle size tailored to your chosen yarn and the degree of lacy effect you wish to create.
For reference, the shawl shown in the images was knitted using Lenka yarn (100% linen, 50g = 300m/328 yards) on US 4 – 3.5mm needles. To complete this beautiful shawl, I used 60g of yarn, which translates to approximately 360m/394 yards, resulting in a finished piece that measures around 14 x 60 inches (or 36 x 125 cm) once blocked.
Explore the magic of lace knitting with the Calineczka shawl pattern. It's a great way to challenge yourself and produce a stunning piece that you'll be proud to wear or gift.
