Cambridge Cardigan

$10.53

The Cambridge Cardigan is the quintessential collegiate cardigan, perfect for any knitting enthusiast looking to create a stylish and functional piece. Inspired by classic Scottish tartans, this preppy and oversized cardigan is designed to keep you warm while you study in a chilly library, relax with a book in the quad, or enjoy a cozy visit to the local pub. Its timeless design makes it ideal for both casual outings and more structured environments.

Yarn: This cardigan uses high-quality Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift yarn, made from 100% wool. You will need 133 m/115 yds per 25 g skein. For the main color (MC), choose Storm 243 (a beautiful gray-green): 9 (10, 11, 12, 13, 14) skeins are required. For contrast color 1 (CC1), opt for Granite 122 (light gray): gather 4 (5, 5, 5, 6, 7) skeins. For contrast color 2 (CC2), select Cinnamon 576 (a warm orange): 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3) skeins will do. In total, anticipate a meterage of 1577–2524 m or a yardage of 1725-2760 yds, making it a unique addition to your wardrobe.

Needles: To achieve your desired fit and gauge, use a 3.25 mm/US 3 circular needle in lengths of 30 cm, 40 cm, and 80 cm (12”, 16” and 32”). Additionally, a 3 mm/US 2.5 circular needle in 30 cm, 40 cm, 80 cm, and 100 cm (12”, 16”, 32” and 40”) will be necessary. Remember to adjust your needle size as needed to match the specified gauge for the best end result.

Notions: Ensure you have the proper tools on hand, including waste yarn for markers, removable stitch markers, and a yarn needle for finishing touches. For those using steeks, a crochet hook or sewing machine can be handy, as well as a 3-pronged plus 5-pronged felting needle with a brush/platform (as demonstrated in our helpful video). If desired, you can also use 1 m/1 yd of bias binding to cover the steek at the armhole area. Don’t forget to pick up 9 stylish buttons (15 mm/5/8”) to complete your Cambridge Cardigan. This project offers you not only a fashionable piece but also an enjoyable knitting experience that showcases your craftsmanship!
