If you’re searching for the perfect handmade gift for a newborn, look no further! I designed this charming baby cardigan specifically for children aged 12 to 18 months. Many parents tend to receive an abundance of beautiful baby clothes for their little ones during the earliest months, so I prefer to create something they can cherish and use a bit later on, extending its practicality. This cardigan features a simple and straightforward design that makes it an excellent choice for beginner knitters or anyone who is not yet experienced in crafting baby garments. It is knitted in one seamless piece, ensuring a neat and tidy finish without the complications of sewing separate pieces together.

Materials Needed

To get started on this delightful baby cardigan, you will need:

• 4.5 mm knitting needles
• 1.5 skeins (100g each) of yarn, approximately 400 meters in total. I personally used a vibrant bright red Royal yarn from Zeeman for this project. While this specific color may not be available this season, Zeeman offers a wonderful selection of other lovely colors for you to explore. I chose to work with a synthetic yarn to ensure comfort, as I always worry that wool could be itchy for sensitive baby skin. However, if you prefer, you can absolutely opt for wool or any other yarn material that suits your taste.

When knitted in seed stitch, my gauge measures 20 stitches by 34 rows per 10 cm x 10 cm square. Be sure to check your gauge to ensure the perfect fit for that special little one!
