Castellaro shawl

$4.64

The Castellaro shawl is a beautifully light and airy accessory, perfect for cold summer evenings and the gentle breezes of spring. This versatile shawl makes for an ideal layering piece, complementing any outfit while providing just the right amount of warmth when the temperature dips.

Constructed from the center bottom and worked upwards, this unique shawl features a technique where stitches are increased at each side on every other row. This method results in a captivating shape, striking a perfect balance between the classic crescent and traditional triangle shawls. The final touch of an I-cord bind off gives the Castellaro shawl a polished finish, making it both stylish and functional.

When it comes to materials, you'll need 400 m of fingering weight yarn (approximately 787 yards or 720 m) in 100g. For the sample, we used a luxurious blend of 73% linen and 27% cotton from Filpucci, which lends the shawl a lovely drape and texture. You will also require US 4 (3.5 mm) needles for knitting the main body of the shawl and US 7 (4.5 mm) needles for the I-cord bind off. Don't forget to have other essential notions on hand, including a tapestry needle, stitch markers, and blocking pins or wires to achieve the perfect shape during the finishing process.

The gauge for this project is 16 stitches and 40 rows in a 4” (10 cm) square of garter stitch, using US 4 (3.5 mm) needles, after blocking. While gauge is not critical for the Castellaro shawl, variations can affect your yardage requirements and the finished size, so keep this in mind as you work on your project.

Whether you're an experienced knitter or a novice looking to expand your skills, the Castellaro shawl offers a delightful pattern that is sure to enhance your collection of handmade accessories. With its elegant design and lightweight feel, it's the perfect project to showcase your creativity and craftsmanship!
