Celtic Closure
Introducing my favorite sweater design to date, a stunning piece that combines sophisticated style with intricate craftsmanship! This sweater features a captivating cable as the focal point, elegantly contrasted by a tweedy yarn in reverse stockinette, which adds a delightful texture that’s both subtle and eye-catching. The cable design is inspired by one from Elsbeth Lavold’s renowned “Viking Patterns for Knitting.” To elevate the intricacy, my version includes a unique buttonhole woven into the center of each cable motif, creating an exquisite detail that truly sets this design apart.
The double-breasted look enhanced by luxurious leather button closures adds just the right touch of sophistication to this fun and stylish sweater, making it a must-have addition to any wardrobe. This project is best suited for advanced knitters, as it requires the ability to read and knit from charts—a skill that will truly showcase your knitting expertise.
For your convenience, the sample was knit using KP's Wool of the Andes, a high-quality yarn that works beautifully for this pattern. Below are the approximate yarn requirements by size (please remember that these amounts are estimates and can vary based on individual knitting tension and style):
- 1210 yards for sizes XS/S
- 1320 yards for sizes M/L
- 1430 yards for sizes 1X/2X
- 1540 yards for sizes 3X/4X
Whether you’re preparing for chilly weather or simply want to elevate your knitwear collection, this sweater pattern is ideal for showcasing your knitting skills while enjoying the process of creation. Happy knitting!
