Classic Turdus sweater
The Turdus genus encompasses various species of blackbirds and thrushes, celebrated for their affectionate nature. In my garden, a large mulberry tree once provided shelter for a charming blackbird. Each time I took a seat at the garden table, this delightful bird would hop over to visit me, lingering just a meter away before returning to its beloved tree. Unfortunately, this feathered friend has since disappeared, and I’d like to dedicate this elegant sweater to its memory.
The Turdus Sweater is designed to be knitted top down and in the round, featuring classic stocking stitches for a timeless look. Stitches are picked up at the armholes, and the sleeves are worked seamlessly in the round. This design boasts a very classical silhouette with approximately 2 inches (5 cm) of ease, a subtle A-line shape, and charming 3/1 ribbing details. Additionally, a striking band of Fair Isle, crafted in a contrasting color, beautifully accentuates the yoke and the hems of the sleeves, adding a unique touch to your garment.
Gauge: The gauge for this pattern is 4" x 4" / 10 cm x 10 cm, which translates to 29 sts and 40 rnds worked in stocking stitches using a US size 6 / 4 mm needle. After washing and blocking, the fabric will showcase the elasticity of Camello wool. If you plan to use a substitution yarn, be sure to consider going down a few sizes to achieve the same fit.
Whether you are an experienced knitter or a novice looking to expand your skills, the Turdus Sweater offers a delightful project to create a warm and thoughtful tribute to your feathered friends. Enjoy the process of knitting this cozy garment, and relish the beautiful Fair Isle details that make it truly special!
