Copley Square Cowl
Copley Square, Boston, is not only one of my favorite places on earth but also serves as inspiration for my favorite knitting project: this stunning cowl. To me, Copley Square is the heart of Boston, and its beauty is matched only by the elegance of this cowl. As one of the windiest spots I’ve ever encountered during winter walks, I realized I needed a cowl that is not only pretty but also functional for those chilly days.
This cowl design strikes the perfect balance with its combination of lovely lace and cozy textures. About one-third of the cowl features my favorite lace pattern, Snowdrop, while the remaining two-thirds showcase a classic Moss Stitch. Both stitch patterns are not only beautiful but also simple to execute, making this project accessible for knitters of all levels. A cowl composed entirely of lace would leave my neck exposed to the cold, while a solid design lacks that engaging, aesthetic appeal. The lace pattern adds a touch of elegance to the front, while the Moss Stitch provides essential warmth and a pleasing texture on both sides. This cowl truly represents the best of both worlds: being both visually stunning and practical—all while being easy to knit!
For this project, I used MadelineTosh Vintage for the photos, but you can opt for any worsted weight wool or DK weight cotton during the spring months, ensuring versatility in your yarn choice.
This lovely cowl pattern comes in three sizes: Short, Medium (as pictured), and XL. The Medium size wraps twice around the neck and offers extra length for a delightful drape that enhances its charm.
Gauge for this cowl is 16 stitches = 4 inches when using the blocked Moss Stitch, ensuring your finished product will have the perfect fit.
Get ready to add a beautiful and functional accessory to your wardrobe with this elegant cowl pattern, perfect for those who appreciate both form and function in their handmade knitwear!
