Cranky Chameleon Calm Chameleon
Chameleons are not only fascinating creatures, but they also serve as a delightful inspiration for knitting projects. These captivating reptiles are renowned for their ability to change color; for instance, when a calm green chameleon feels threatened, it can transform into a vibrant red hue. In this knitting pattern, you’ll create an adorable chameleon measuring about 8 inches (20 cm) long, complete with a curled tail. This charming design offers the option to knit a long, curled tongue—ideal for catching imaginary insects—or leave it out for a simplified version. The unsewn tail can be beautifully wrapped around various objects, enhancing its playful appearance.
To craft this enchanting chameleon, you’ll need the following materials:
- Pair of 3mm knitting needles
- Pair of 3mm double-pointed needles (dpns)
- Pair of 2mm double-pointed needles (for the optional fly)
- Tapestry needle for sewing up
- Stuffing material to give your chameleon a plump, cuddly shape
For this project, I used the following yarns:
- Main red yarn: Lipstick (Stylecraft Special 100% acrylic DK) - 25g (150 yds/m)
- Main green yarn: Meadow (Stylecraft Special 100% acrylic DK) - 25g (150 m/yds)
- A few yards/meters of pink DK yarn (optional, for the tongue)
