Craters of the Moon Flowers
Last summer, during my visit to the breathtaking National Monument, I encountered an abundance of vibrant Dwarf Monkeyflowers in bloom. Inspired by this natural beauty, I captured a stunning photo of the flowers and shared it on Instagram, captioning it "Craters of the Moon Flowers." A friend suggested that this would make an excellent pattern name, prompting me to design a shawl that embodies the essence of this picturesque landscape.
Finding the perfect yarn combination for my "Craters of the Moon Flowers" shawl was an exciting challenge! I chose Solstice’s Falling Stars in the stunning colorway “Meteor Shower,” which beautifully mimics the shiny obsidian rock background of the landscape. For the contrasting color to represent the delicate Monkeyflowers, I sought the ideal slightly variegated pink. My search led me to the delightful “Raspberry Sour,” dyed by Gerschubie Fiber Arts—truly a perfect match.
This shawl is a delightful and quick-knit project, featuring cozy garter stitch rows that create a warm texture. Additionally, it showcases a unique and fun technique for crafting the charming flowers, making it an enjoyable experience for knitters of all skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, you'll find joy in the creation process.
What’s more, this project is wonderful for utilizing leftover yarn scraps, especially for the flower details, adding a personal touch from your stash. The size and yarn weight of the shawl are easily adaptable, allowing you to customize it to your preference without sacrificing style or flair.
