Daddy's Prayer Shawl

This shawl holds a deeply personal story that began on February 25th, 2015, when my Daddy, living 600 km away, experienced a stroke. As I packed my bag to visit him in the hospital, I instinctively reached for a stunning skein of Gaugedyeworks yarn, determined to keep myself busy and sane during the long and arduous drive. The yarn was dyed specifically for creating a triangular shawl, designed with stripes that are uniform in width. With each stitch I knitted, I filled the shawl with thoughts, cherished memories, and heartfelt prayers for my beloved Daddy.

Upon finally arriving at the hospital, I was relieved to find that he was much improved. After two days, I returned home, only to receive news that his condition had taken a turn for the worse. Once again, I hopped on the next train, taking my in-progress shawl with me as a source of comfort. Miraculously, he recovered once more, and as I returned home, the shawl and I had together traveled an impressive 2400 km, almost completing its journey.

I decided to finish the shawl with a stunning knit-on border. Just as I began this final touch, my Daddy passed away, marking a profound moment in my life and in the shawl's story. Each stitch of this shawl symbolizes the love, hope, and resilience that accompanied me through this challenging time.
