Daisy Ruth Cabled Mittens
Every Christmas, I delight in giving my mom a special gift card for “anything knit.” Over the years, I’ve crafted a variety of heartfelt creations for her, including cozy socks and a beloved sweater. This year, she specifically requested mittens, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring her vision to life. Drawing inspiration from her cherished Celtic ring, which she graciously loaned me, I’ve chosen some stunning Alpaca yarn that adds a touch of luxury to these handmade mittens. The standout feature of these mittens is the main cable pattern, intricately designed to mimic the beauty of her ring, while also incorporating interlocking hearts that evoke a sense of blooming flowers. In homage to her long-time desire to name something “Daisy,” I’ve decided to name these delightful mittens Daisy, making them an even more personal gift. Additionally, I’ve added a playful twist to the cuff ribbing, creating a lovely zig-zag pattern that travels up the edges of the mittens and unites at the top in a seamless line. The palms are crafted in plain stockinette, ensuring maximum comfort while also allowing for faster knitting. To enhance functionality, thumb gussets are expertly worked as you go, with the option to come back and finish the thumb tip after completing the mitten. For your convenience, I knitted the entire mitten using the magic loop method; however, this adaptable pattern can easily be made using two circular needles or traditional double-pointed needles, depending on your preference. While I personally find it easy to knit all the cables without a cable needle, beginners may prefer to use a skinny cable needle for added comfort and ease. This pattern not only creates beautiful mittens but also offers an enjoyable knitting experience, making it perfect for knitters of all skill levels. With the cozy warmth of Alpaca yarn, the intricate cable design, and the personal touch of being named Daisy, these mittens are sure to become a cherished addition to your winter wardrobe.
