Dutch House Pencil Case
This charming Dutch House pencil case, inspired by the iconic step gable houses I admired during my recent holiday, is a delightful addition to any knitting enthusiast's collection. Not only have I used mine to store a bar of chocolate, but its versatile design also makes it an excellent pencil case. The house-shaped pencil case is beautifully knitted using red, cream, and brown double-knit wool, offering a cozy, tactile experience. I added unique details, such as the black embroidered window frames and railings, to really bring this piece to life. The construction of this Dutch House pencil case is extremely straightforward, making it accessible for knitters of all skill levels. The front and back sections are simply sewn together, creating a seamless look. For added functionality, I crafted a black felt lining that is oversewn at the mouth of the case. While this lining isn't absolutely essential, it provides additional durability – particularly useful if anyone intends to use it as a pencil case, as it prevents items from getting snagged in the loops of wool on the inside.
My wallet features a simple and secure button and loop fastener. However, if you’re considering using this design to store pencils, a different fastener, like Velcro, may prove to be more practical. The finished dimensions of my wallet are 9cm by 30cm, making it compact yet spacious enough for various uses. The pattern includes the chart I used for creating the front section, along with clear instructions for the back section and assembly process, ensuring that you can replicate this adorable Dutch House pencil case with ease.
