Easy Peasy
This is a no-brainer shawl knitting pattern that’s perfect for knitters of all skill levels! Whether you're watching your favorite TV show, chatting with family, or embarking on a scenic road trip, this shawl can be knitted easily and is simple to set aside whenever you need to. Enjoy creating a beautiful accessory that is both practical and stylish!
The shawl is designed to be knitted from the top down, featuring increases on every second row. For my sample, I used aran weight yarn, but feel free to utilize any yarn you have on hand. Just be sure to reserve one-third of your total yarn for the border, and knit until you run out of yarn. This flexibility in yarn choice means you can make the shawl truly your own! Gauge and final size are completely up to you, so let your creativity shine.
Difficulty Level: Easy. This pattern involves basic knit and purl stitches, some easy lace techniques, and the fundamental principles of top-down shawl construction, making it perfect for beginners as well as seasoned knitters looking for a relaxing project.
Yarn: For this project, I used Alize Burcum Batik patterns (100% acrylic; 210m/100g; 230yds/3.53oz), requiring a total of 3 skeins. You'll use 2 skeins for the main body of the shawl and 1 skein for the decorative border, ensuring a lovely finish!
Needles: 5mm/US 8 circular knitting needles will work best for this shawl, allowing for ample space to accommodate the growing fabric as you knit.
Notions: To complete your shawl, you will need a yarn needle for weaving in ends and 1 stitch marker (optional) to help keep track of your pattern repetitions.
Gauge: The pattern gauge is 17 stitches and 28 rows in stockinette stitch, which equals 10cm/4in. Ensure your gauge matches for the best fit and drape!
Size: The dimensions of my sample shawl are 190 x 70cm (76 x 28in), but you can easily adapt the sizing to your preference. Keep in mind that the size of your shawl will affect the yardage used, so plan accordingly to create your ideal garment.
With this easy shawl knitting pattern, you’ll have a cozy and fashionable accessory to wear or gift, all while enjoying the relaxing act of knitting. Grab your materials, and let’s get started on your new favorite shawl!
