Elm
Introducing the Elm Shawl, a stunning knitting pattern that perfectly blends modern aesthetics with clean lines and bold brioche detailing. This shawl is not only beautiful but also a delight to knit; I loved the process so much that I crafted three of them—an uncommon occurrence for me!
The knitting journey begins with just 9 stitches, where you'll create a fascinating wedge using the brioche stitch technique. As you progress, an I-cord is expertly continued across the top, while stitches for a second, longer wedge are seamlessly picked up along the left side of the first wedge. Throughout the entire project, I-cord edging enhances the elegant finish. This versatile pattern is an excellent choice for those looking to explore two-color brioche as well!
For this project, I used Brown Sheep Prairie Spun yarn, which features a generous 256 yards (234 meters) per 100-gram skein and is made of 100% wool. I recommend using four skeins in the lovely color Coneflower, or you can opt for approximately 1000 yards of your favorite DK weight yarn to achieve a stunning result.
When it comes to achieving the perfect fit, maintaining gauge is crucial—aim for 19 stitches and 42 rows per 4 inches (10 cm) in brioche stitch. Whether you're a seasoned knitter or just starting your knitting adventure, the Elm Shawl offers an engaging and rewarding project that will elevate your accessory collection.
