In 2010, I stumbled upon this stunning hand-dyed yarn from The Knit Witch at Stitches South, specifically in the captivating colorway named "Venus." The rich tones of this yarn inspired me to find the perfect stitch pattern to truly highlight its beauty. After working on this delightful shawlette during Stitches South in 2011, I’m excited to finally introduce it, ready to see the light of day!

This bottom-up shawlette is crafted from a luxurious sock weight yarn that showcases the exquisite variegation of the fibers. The unique edging of this shawlette is cleverly incorporated along the sides as you knit, adding to its overall charm. To ensure an ideal fit that sits beautifully on your shoulders, I utilized short-row shaping, which adds both style and function. The shawlette is finished off with an elegant picot bind-off, providing a refined touch to the overall design.

Although the pattern isn't identical on both sides, its beauty shines through in either orientation, making it a lovely reversible piece. Personally, I find the "wrong side" of the shawlette particularly enchanting. The center patterning is thoughtfully designed to be simple yet effective, allowing the variegated yarns to take center stage and showcase their vibrant colors to their full advantage.

The finished sample measures an impressive 22 inches deep and approximately 60 inches wide after blocking. Thanks to its stretchiness, this shawlette can be easily blocked to suit your personal taste and desired drape, making it a versatile accessory for any wardrobe.

This knitting pattern has been meticulously tech edited for accuracy by Chris Church, ensuring you have a seamless knitting experience. The sample displayed features the beautiful Knit Witch Celestial Twist, but a suggested substitute is provided below for your convenience.

Embrace the artistic possibilities with this enchanting shawlette pattern and let your creativity soar with each stitch!
