Originally published for the passionate members of the 2022 Sock Knitting World Championship as the delightful cool-down socks, the Fabled Cables Shorties are your go-to pattern for a fabulous Spring and Summer knitting experience.
These socks feature an easy cuff-down construction that makes them beginner-friendly and enjoyable for knitters of all skill levels. The pattern includes a sophisticated yet manageable detailed cast-on, an enchanting cable design, a classic flap heel, and intricate gusset work. With all these elements, the Fabled Cables Shorties offer a truly quick and rewarding knitting project that you won't want to put down.
Available in 4 Sizes:
- Small (S) – Fits foot circumference of 7” / 17.75 cm
- Medium (M) – Fits foot circumference of 8” / 20.5 cm
- Large (L) – Fits foot circumference of 9” / 22.5 cm
- X-Large (XL) – Fits foot circumference of 10” / 25 cm
Each size allows for adjustable sock length, with total measurements from toe to heel of 7”, 8”, 9”, and 10” (17.75, 20.5, 22.5, and 25 cm, respectively).
Materials Needed:
- Fingering weight sock yarn in quantities ranging from 56 to 78 grams, depending on size
Required Needles:
To create the beautiful Fabled Cables Shorties, use size 2.5mm / US 1.5 circular needles, ideally 40” long for the magic loop method. You will also need a set of Double Pointed Needles (DPNs) for the heel section. This pattern is versatile, allowing you to work the socks with either circular needles or DPNs. The written instructions cater to Needle 1 (N1) and Needle 2 (N2) of the circular knitting method but can easily be adjusted for use with 2 DPNs for N1 and 2 additional DPNs for N2.
