Face Mask with Filter Pocket - knitting pattern

Face Mask with Filter Pocket

$3.00

As the Covid quarantine continued, I found myself gravitating away from complex knitting projects and returning to my favorite beginner pattern: Granny's Dishcloth. The soothing repetition of garter stitch allowed my mind to wander to the practical needs of the moment, particularly face masks, which everyone was sewing. While knit masks might not seem ideal due to the inherent holes in knit fabric, I figured that could be easily remedied by adding a filter. The result is this versatile knitted mask pattern, designed specifically for adult women, along with easy adjustments for children's and men's sizes.

This stylish mask features a unique back pocket, knitting crafted specifically for holding filter materials such as paper towels or coffee filters to enhance its effectiveness. For my sample projects, I used a delightful mix of cotton, acrylic, and wool blends, achieving a comfortable gauge between 16 to 18 stitches per 4 inches (10 cm). To complete your mask, you can choose between elastic or crochet ear hooks, ensuring a snug yet comfortable fit. The pattern also includes a handy crochet neck cord and an innovative garter stitch ear protector, providing both functionality and comfort for extended wear.

Now is the perfect time to dive into your yarn stash, as all my samples required only 50 grams of yarn. This pattern is great for knitters of all skill levels who want to create something useful and timely during these challenging times.

**Important Note:** Please be aware that non-surgical masks are not intended to provide full protection against disease. However, they can significantly help protect others from your speech, sneeze, and cough droplets. If everyone adopted the practice of wearing a mask, we could collectively enhance our safety during this global health crisis.
