Fair Isle Scarf in Blues and Greys

$3.75

Discover the beauty of traditional Fair Isle knitting with our stunning scarf pattern, inspired by the Shetland Islands and the talented local craftswoman, Mary Macgregor. This intricate scarf design draws from the exquisite "Fair Isle Knitting Patterns" book, showcasing the rich heritage of Shetland knitting.

During my recent visit to the Shetland Islands, I had the pleasure of meeting Mary Macgregor and exploring the incredible local knitting culture. Following our meeting, I ventured to Jamieson's of Shetland for a delightful yarn shopping experience. There, I was captivated by their exquisite range of Ultra blend yarn—crafted from a luxurious Shetland wool and lambswool combination. I selected an enchanting palette of greys and blues, complementing it with a vibrant red to elevate the overall design.

This beautifully crafted scarf measures 6.5 inches by 72 inches (16.5 cm by 183 cm) and is knit in the round, offering a luxurious and reversible finish that boasts a double thickness, ideal for warmth and comfort during chilly days. To ensure a seamless look, the ends of the scarf are expertly closed using a 3-needle bind-off technique.

For this eye-catching scarf, I utilized five different colors, totaling 11 25-gram balls of yarn—featuring two shades of grey, two shades of blue, and a pop of red that ties the whole design together. Whether you’re a seasoned knitter looking for a new project or a beginner eager to try your hand at Fair Isle techniques, this pattern is perfect for showcasing your knitting skills and creating a stunning accessory that is both fashionable and functional.
