Felted Mouse Cat Toy
Have you just welcomed a new, playful kitten into your home? If so, you’ll want to keep him entertained with engaging toys! I’ve created an adorable and functional felted cat toy design that your rambunctious kitten will love. This cute little mouse toy has quickly become my kitten's favorite plaything, and I've even caught him napping with it during his daily snoozes! The finished mouse body measures about 4 inches long, and with the tail extended, it reaches almost 6 inches in total length. The body of the toy is worked in a simple garter stitch, while the tail and ears are crafted using the easy I-cord technique. To add extra charm, I recommend using multiple colors of yarn, making this project an excellent way to utilize your felt-able yarn stash. After felting, you can bring the mouse to life by embroidering the face, which is sure to enhance its appeal. It’s fascinating to observe that my cats won’t touch the faceless mice while they are drying, but the moment the face is embroidered, they can’t resist taking them off the tabletop for playtime! For added excitement, consider rubbing the mice with catnip—kittens love it! I stuff these little mice with wool instead of polyester batting, which makes them durable yet lightweight for your furry friend. I recommend saving your cut wool yarn ends specifically for this purpose; you can also use roving or additional knitting yarn as stuffing. Plus, because these toys are felted, gauge is not important, giving you more freedom in your crafting! Dive into this delightful knitting project to create the perfect toy for your kitten. Not only will it keep your kitten busy, but you’ll also enjoy the satisfaction of creating something special just for him. Happy knitting!
