Fjall

“Fjall” is the Icelandic word for mountain, and the stunning body pattern featured in this beautiful lopapeysa brings to mind a picturesque ridge of peaks encircling its hem. Inspired by my breathtaking view of the Cuillin Range on the Isle of Skye from my home in the West Highlands of Scotland, I have infused this striking imagery into the colourwork design of Fjall, creating a unique knitwear piece that celebrates the natural beauty of mountainous landscapes.

The Fjall sweater features a simple yet very handsome rolled neckline that seamlessly transitions into the stranded yoke, showcasing its intricate and eye-catching design. After completing the yoke, sleeve stitches are cleverly put on hold while the body of the sweater is worked, culminating in that captivating pattern of hills, followed by another stylish rolled edge at the hem. This method ensures that you’ll have a flawless finish without any need for grafting as you would find in traditional top-down sweaters.

Once the body is finished, it's time to return to the sleeves! With just a few underarm stitches to pick up, you’ll continue knitting and decreasing to beautifully shape the cuff. The design is elegantly completed with a stripe and a rolled edge, harmoniously balancing the overall aesthetic of the sweater. The Fjall pattern not only enhances your wardrobe with its stunning visual appeal but also provides you with a rewarding knitting experience. Experience the joy of creating your own Fjall sweater today and embrace the artistry of colorwork knitting combined with thoughtful craftsmanship!
