Flying North
As winter approaches, it’s nearly time for the annual migration, but these charming geese on our ski hat are bravely heading north instead of south!
Quilters will instantly recognize the delightful triangle pattern of this hat as the classic flying geese unit often used in quilt designs. In this creative knitting project, the geese are all heading northward, with a stylish ribbing section beautifully separating each unit in the row. The unique rick-rack ribbing at the beginning adds intriguing detail, while a fluffy pom-pom adorns the back of the hat, providing a fun touch of whimsy.
This fantastic knitting pattern comes in three sizes: Adult S (16”), M (19”), and L (22.5”), each with an additional 1”-2” of ease for a comfortable fit. The sample hat in size M required approximately 114 yards of yarn to create, and to craft the pom-pom, I used an additional 24 yards or more. Feel free to customize your pom-pom to be larger or even forgo it entirely if you prefer a simpler look.
My own head circumference measures 22”, making the size M slightly snug for me yet still wearable. If you prefer a slouchier style, consider increasing the length of the hat. I suggest adding at least one more full repeat of the pattern, keeping in mind to account for extra yarn needed to achieve your desired look.
The stitch pattern is an engaging repeat of 16 stitches, perfect for knitters looking to practice and strengthen their skills. Detailed instructions for the stitch pattern are provided in written format, making this pattern accessible for both experienced knitters and enthusiastic beginners.
So grab your favorite yarn and needles, and get ready to create this cozy flying geese ski hat that will not only keep you warm but also showcase your love for knitting and quilting! Dive into the world of knitting with this delightful pattern and make a memorable addition to your winter wardrobe.
