Friendship Healing, Shawl

Free

My mother recently passed away, leaving me in a deep state of grief. During this difficult time, I found myself stepping away from my beloved knitting—a surprising turn of events since I never imagined anything could make me stop. Acknowledging my feelings, I decided to take a break. However, my wonderful friends came to my aid when they gifted me a gorgeous skein of yarn to remind me that I wasn’t alone in my sorrow and to inspire creativity once again. After staring at this beautiful yarn for several days, I finally took the plunge and wound it into a ball. With the right size needles conveniently at hand, I instinctively picked up the yarn and began knitting a stitch pattern I had memorized. Before I knew it, I had crafted a lovely shawl titled “Friendship Healing.”

This shawl is designed as a single skein project, with the skein holding a total of 438 yards. I was left with just 4 1/2 yards at the end—a close call! For the finishing touch, I chose to use Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off, a technique I absolutely adore, especially for shawls. If you're interested, you can find detailed instructions for this bind off technique in the online magazine Knitty.
