Frog Mittens & Hand Puppert
As a dedicated zoo volunteer, I am excited to share the story of the American Bullfrog and its impact on our native northwestern pond turtles with visitors through a creative knitting project. To make this educational experience engaging, I designed a playful bullfrog hand puppet that features an adorable turtle pin, symbolizing a hatching turtle in the frog's mouth. After some adjustments, including the addition of thumbs, this innovative concept transformed into a delightful pair of mittens.
This comprehensive knitting pattern includes several charming options: basic frog mittens, frog mittens with open mouths, and the original frog hand puppet. With various sizes ranging from 4 years old to XL adult, you can easily select the yarn weight that best suits your needs. For example, opt for worsted weight yarn for adult sizes, or choose sport weight or baby sport weight yarn for a fun children's project.
The pattern is designed for use with the Magic Loop technique, so some experience with this popular circular knitting method is beneficial. To accommodate knitters who prefer to work with double-pointed needles, I've included complete charts for all the pieces. Whether you’re a seasoned knitter or a beginner eager to learn, this pattern allows for creativity and personalization throughout your knitting journey.
