Full Moon
This enchanting knitting design is inspired by the Year of the Sheep, celebrating the lunar New Year with vibrant colors and organic shapes. Represented by the lively color green, this design symbolizes new beginnings and the fresh vitality of wood as we transition from the harsh winter storms of New York. The longing for those bright, green branches, which signify that spring is just around the corner, makes this project even more special. It offers a perfect remedy to lift our spirits from the grips of winter—creating something that almost brings the scent of springtime right into our hands!
For this project, I selected a bright, fresh green yarn paired with stunning beads that feature delightful gold flashes. However, feel free to express your creativity—choose from a spectrum of colors such as earthy greens, radiant golds, rich browns, or any other hues that spark joy in you. The design takes form as a beautiful full circle composed of 12 wedges, reminiscent of a zodiac mandala that pays tribute to nature’s cycles. The intricate lace work showcases organic patterns, evoking imagery of fresh leaves gently swaying under the shade of a lush willow tree in full bloom.
To create this stunning piece, I am using 2 skeins of [Maple Ridge Lace][1] in the exquisite Tansy colorway, generously provided by Kate Wright Designs. The slight sheen of the yarn combined with the delicate lace will produce a remarkable visual effect that embodies the essence of spring.
This project was originally crafted as a collaborative effort in early 2015 and was thoughtfully released in installments throughout the late winter months, allowing fellow knitters to join in on the fun. If you are an original group member, you will cherish revisiting this delightful pattern that continues to inspire creativity and warmth. Get ready to embrace the beauty of spring with this charming and dynamic knitting project!
