Gakusei

$8.62

'Gakusei’ (pronounced: gak’say) translates to 'Student' in Japanese, and this charming cardigan is inspired by a nostalgic sweater I cherished during my years at Art College—minus the holes and the paint splatters! The 'Gakusei' cardigan is an airy, loose gauge open cardigan designed for a stylish yet relaxed fit. Featuring a broad rib pattern, it beautifully flatters the body's shape while the contrasting color side panels and elbow patches introduce a delightful touch of visual interest. This versatile knit is constructed flat, and after seaming, the sleeves are expertly picked up and worked in the round from the top-down. To complete this fashionable piece, the collar and front edges are picked up and knitted off from the already finished body, ensuring a clean and polished look. As an added feature, you have the option to personalize your cardigan with various types of fasteners, allowing you to wear it open or closed—style it your way!

Materials and Tools

For the 'Gakusei' cardigan, I recommend using Plucky Sweater by The Plucky Knitter, which consists of 90% Merino Wool and 10% Nylon. You will need 100g of yarn, equivalent to 270 yards (250 meters) in DK weight.

Buttons (optional): If you’d like to personalize your cardigan further, you will need 8 to 12 buttons, each measuring 1 inch (2.5 cm).

Embark on your next knitting adventure with the 'Gakusei' cardigan, a beautiful blend of comfort and creativity that will add a unique touch to your wardrobe. This pattern is perfect for intermediate knitters looking to showcase their skills while creating a timeless piece that can be worn on various occasions.
