Genus Araneus (Spider) Hat
For years, I’ve adored the intricate Spider cable pattern featured in Barbara Walker’s ‘Charted Knitting Designs: A Third Treasury of Knitting Patterns’ (often referred to as the yellow book). As Halloween approaches, creating a stylish and festive hat using this stunning cable design seemed like the perfect project to embrace the spirit of the season.
This hat pattern is available in multiple sizes, making it suitable for both kids and adults. It’s perfect for knitters with experience working in the round and following cable patterns from charts. Whether you're new to cables or a seasoned pro, this pattern is designed to be accessible while also providing a satisfying challenge.
The optional two-colour ribbing adds a delightful twist, making it an excellent way to use up those yarn leftovers. You’ll need less than 30 yards of contrasting color (CC) yarn, which is perfect for creating a unique look. However, for those who prefer a more traditional approach, the hat also works beautifully in a single color, letting the Spider cable pattern take center stage.
Please note: This pattern is an updated version of my original Spider Hat pattern from 2009. It features enhanced sizing and an improved decrease technique for a better fit and finish. If you purchased the previous version, feel free to reach out, and I’ll be happy to send you this revised copy.
Get ready to craft a cozy, eye-catching accessory this Halloween season with this charming Spider Hat pattern that showcases elegance and creativity all in one delightful knit!
